Generate Upcycle develops, owns, and operates facilities that turn solid and liquid organic waste into renewable energy, clean water, and climate-smart fertilizers — delivering sustainable, circular waste management solutions to communities across North America and Europe.

We partner with businesses, cities, and states to divert food waste, yard waste and recyclable materials from landfills. Our facilities also reduce the environmental impact of municipal wastewater, dairy farms and other industrial liquid waste streams by leveraging new patented technologies that eliminate the use of chemicals and the need for land applications.

Bill Caesar

President

Bill is a seasoned organizational leader in the waste management industry and the first President of Generate Upcycle. He joined Generate Upcycle following the sale of WCA Waste, where he served as the Chief Executive Officer starting in 2014. Prior to WCA, he was the President of WM Recycling, overseeing the organics business and the early-stage technology and services investments portfolio. Bill served as Chief Strategy Officer for Waste Management and was a principal in the Atlanta Office of McKinsey & Company where he advised clients on corporate strategy, growth initiatives, and performance improvement. Prior to joining McKinsey, Bill was a Russian analyst in the Central Intelligence Agency and the U.S. State Department. Bill holds a BA in Russian Studies from Colgate University, an MA in Russian Studies from Georgetown University and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, where he was awarded a Keller Scholar Fellowship and graduated as a Fuqua Scholar.

Brandon Moffatt

Vice President, Business Development

Brandon is an entrepreneurial and results-oriented leader with a track record of successfully identifying business opportunities and executing the development and construction of low carbon infrastructure including renewable natural gas and green hydrogen projects. Heis a professional engineer who has led the development and construction of complex organics processing sites including anaerobic digestion across North America. He has considerable expertise in the commercialization and operational aspects of power to hydrogen and power to gas. Brandon is a board member of the Ontario Environment Industry Association (ONEIA). He has a BS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the Odette School of Business.

Carrie Miller

Vice President, People and Organization

Carrie has 25 years of domestic and international human resource experience including 8 years in the waste industry. Her expertise in human capital management and organizational change has helped build world-class organizations driving accelerated individual growth. Carrie has a passion for people and building a diverse and inclusive corporate culture. Prior to Generate Upcycle, Carrie held human resources leadership roles at GFL Environmental, WCA Waste, and Key Energy Services. She holds a BA in Psychology and Human Services from Alaska Pacific University and is an active member of the national and local chapters of Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).

Dan Meccariello

Vice President, Operations

Prior to joining Generate Upcycle, Dan served as the Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Dynamic Systems Management, a turnkey organic waste treatment solutions provider serving the agricultural and food manufacturing industries focused on the development and operations of anaerobic digestion and wastewater treatment projects in North America. Additionally, Dan held a parallel role as the General Manager of Engineering for US Biogas, an anaerobic digestion systems and equipment design firm he co-founded in 2011. Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, Dan worked in the construction industry as a project manager and process engineer supporting industrial and municipal wastewater infrastructure projects. In 2023, Dan was a recipient of the Waste360 40 under 40 award for his contributions to the waste industry. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Matt Goodman

Senior Manager

Matt works closely with municipalities and businesses across a range of industries to improve their environmental footprint through beneficial reuse of food and organic wastes. He joined Generate Capital in 2019 and has played an integral role in cultivating Generate Upcycle’s customer portfolio while using those relationships to drive investment decisions. Matt has more than fifteen years of experience in the food waste sector and has been a member of the Manhattan Solid Waste Advisory Board. He is a guest lecturer at Columbia University and New York University. Matt holds a BS in economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and MBA from New York University.

Floriano Ferreira

Vice President, Engineering

Floriano joined Generate Capital in 2018 with 25 years of domestic and international experience. Floriano led the management and execution of waste and biogas projects in multiple geographies in North America, Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia. His technical expertise includes waste-to-energy, anaerobic digestion and recycling. Floriano provided technical direction and design for more than 300 bioenergy and waste projects with feedstock originated from municipal solid waste, wastewater treatment plants, urban, industrial and agriculture sectors, and with energy technologies including injection of upgraded biogas into the utility pipeline infrastructure (RNG), and the use of natural gas or upgraded biogas as compressed natural gas for vehicles (CNG). Floriano held positions at Tetra Tech, Anaergia, AES, and Mota-Engil S.A. providing technical expertise, capacity building activities and training to government programs in the waste and biogas sectors including for the EPA and USAID. Floriano holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto and an MBA from Hult International Business School.

Jeremy Steinmann

Vice President, Finance

Jeremy joined Generate Upcycle in 2022 as part of the acquisition of Stormfisher Environmental. Prior to joining Stormfisher Environmental and the renewable energy sector, Jeremy served as CFO of several companies in the technology and industrial goods sectors where he led multiple acquisition and growth initiatives. Jeremy holds a BA from Wilfrid Laurier University, a business accounting diploma from Fanshawe College and a CGA/CPA designation.

Suzanne Hunt

Vice President, Policy

Prior to joining Generate Upcycle, Suzanne founded Hunt Green LLC where she created solutions across energy, agriculture and transportation for private equity firms, United Nations bodies, government agencies, clean tech startups, Fortune 500 companies, and nonprofits. Suzanne is credited with orchestrating the landmark bioenergy research initiative for Worldwatch Institute that resulted in the publication of “Biofuels for Transportation: Global Potential and Implications for Energy and Agriculture.” She currently serves on several boards and councils including the International Institute for Sustainability Analysis and Strategy (IINAS) and Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2). Suzanne is a member of the Agriculture and Forestry Advisory Panel to the NY Climate Action Council and the NY Clean Transportation Roadmap Expert Advisory Board and advisor to Club of Madrid, Air New Zealand and the Carbon War Room. With members of her family, Suzanne co-owns Hunt County Vineyard, a seventh generation farm with sustainable winery. She holds a BS in Environmental Science from Penn State, and MA degrees in International Affairs and Natural Resource Management from American University and the UN’s University for Peace in Costa Rica.

David Bahrenburg

Vice President, Compost Operations

David brings a distinguished 20-year career in environmental services and waste management to Generate Upcycle. In his current role, he expertly manages all Generate Upcycle compost operations from the Atlas Organics portfolio. Previously, David served as a Region Vice President for GFL Environmental where he fostered successful vendor relations and oversaw P&L management. He has held leadership positions with WCA Waste, Advanced Disposal and Progressive Waste Solutions managing teams of up to 400 members. David holds a BA in Communications from the University of Central Oklahoma.
