Our Commitment to Communities
Each Generate Upcycle facility is part of the community it serves, and community involvement is central to our mission.
How Our Facilities Work
Food waste is one of the largest contributors to landfill methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Anaerobic digestion captures valuable nutrients in food waste that are permanently lost when buried in a landfill.
Our anaerobic digesters break down organic materials in enclosed oxygen-free tanks. The process produces biogas (approximately 60% methane) and digestate, a nutrient-rich agricultural fertilizer. The biogas is upgraded into renewable natural gas (RNG) or used to generate electricity. Once upgraded, RNG is chemically identical to fossil natural gas — but with a significantly lower carbon footprint. Our facilities use a combination of training protocols and state-of-the-art controls equipment to minimize the impact on neighbors and surrounding communities.
We are committed to ensuring compliance with all air quality and environmental standards.
Environmental Safeguards
Odor, noise, and safety concerns are not just operational metrics — they affect people. We monitor our systems carefully, but we don’t know what you experience in your neighborhood. Your perspective completes the picture. Community reporting helps us:
Report a complaint by filling out our Report a Concern form or reach out to our Community Relations Team.
Measuring Impact
