Renewable Electricity from Food and Agricultural Waste

Generate Upcycle’s U.K. facilities use anaerobic digestion to generate renewable electricity from waste, including food and agricultural feedstock. We turn local organic byproducts into sustainable power for homes, schools, and businesses, closing the loop on waste management to build circular economies in the communities where we operate.

Our Process

Our anaerobic digestion operations leverage a natural biological process that turns waste into value. Once organic waste is loaded into the digester, microbes convert it into two products: biogas, which floats to the top, and digestate, a fertilizer that sinks to the bottom. The biogas is captured and used to run turbines for renewable electricity generation, which can be used on site or exported to the local power grid.

Impact

Each year, our facilities generate 14 MW of renewable electricity. By diverting food and agricultural feedstock from landfills to generate renewable energy, we help communities avoid carbon emissions and power a clean, sustainable future.
