Buffalo Facility
The Buffalo Anaerobic Digester and Biogas Plant is a state-of-the-art food commercial waste anaerobic digestion facility in West Seneca, New York. The anaerobic digester recycles up to 53,000 tons of organic waste every year from food distributors and processors, and manufacturers. The biogas created from the organic waste is converted into RNG through the biogas upgrading system to produce up to 81,000 GJs of renewable natural gas.
Upgrades to convert the Buffalo Digester from producing electricity to RNG were completed in 2025. The facility inject RNG directly into the grid, providing heat for local communities. The biological process of anaerobic digestion also produces liquid and solid digestate, a natural fertilizer that is used on farms in Western New York. Through our regional partnerships with commercial and municipal food producers, the facility diverts up to 53,000 tons of food waste from landfills each year.
The Buffalo facility’s process is powered by our partnerships with food producers and manufacturers in the region. Our innovative waste-management systems create circular economies that serve local communities and advance a sustainable, low-carbon future.
