Buffalo Anaerobic Digestion Facility
 West Seneca, New York

Buffalo Facility

The Buffalo Anaerobic Digester and Biogas Plant is a state-of-the-art food waste anaerobic digestion facility in West Seneca, New York. The anaerobic digester recycles up to 53,000 tons of organic waste every year from manufacturers, retailers, and municipalities. In converting waste into renewable energy, Buffalo produces up to 81,000 GJs of renewable natural gas while diverting waste from landfills.

Renovations to convert the Buffalo Digester from producing electricity to RNG were completed in 2025. The facility now has the capacity to inject RNG directly into the grid, providing heat for local communities. The biological process of anaerobic digestion also produces liquid and solid digestate, a natural fertilizer that is used on farms across the region. Through our regional partnerships with commercial and municipal food producers, the facility diverts up to 53,000 tons of food waste from landfills each year.

The Buffalo facility’s process is powered by our partnerships with food producers and manufacturers in the region. Our innovative waste-management systems create circular economies that serve local communities and advance a sustainable, low-carbon future.
