Generate Upcycle is a leader in waste-to-energy solutions in Canada. Our Drumbo, Ontario facility prepares food waste for anaerobic digestion at our nearby London facility. More than 125,000 tonnes of source-separated organics and packaged food waste are processed annually at Drumbo, diverting organic waste from landfills.

Since construction was completed in 2021, the Drumbo Resource Recovery Centre has become a key player in diverting organic waste from landfills in Southwestern Ontario. Drumbo preprocesses source separated organics and packaged food waste, preparing it for the biological process of anaerobic digestion. Once depackaged, the waste is delivered to our London Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Plant, which is the largest commercial food waste anaerobic digester producing renewable natural gas in North America. The feedstock created at Drumbo is converted into two products: nitrogen-rich certified organic fertilizer, which is used at local farms in the region, and renewable natural gas, a more sustainable option than fossil-created natural gas.

The Drumbo and London facilities provide custom food waste management solutions for municipalities and industrial, commercial, and institutional organizations. Together, they process more than 225,000 metric tonnes of food waste per year and can produce up to 832,000 GJ of renewable natural gas—the annual equivalent of heating over 9,000 homes.
