Our award-winning anaerobic digestion facility in London, Ontario, has been leading the organic waste management industry in Canada since becoming operational 2012. The London Anaerobic Digester and Biogas Plant is one of the largest commercial food waste digesters in Canada, and our partnerships have helped to build a thriving circular economy that benefits the local community.
The London Digester is the largest anaerobic digestion (AD) facility in Ontario that produces renewable natural gas (RNG) from municipal source-separated organics and industrial, commercial, institutional food and beverage waste. The facility uses AD technology to convert organic waste into two products: renewable energy and CFIA-registered organic fertilizer used on farms in Southwestern Ontario. Both support the local circular economy.
The London site currently recycles organic waste from some of Ontario’s largest municipalities as well as food waste from our Drumbo depackaging facility, where source-separated organics and packaged food waste are prepared for anaerobic digestion at London.
The facility operates four digesters and three biogas upgrading system units to purify biogas to produce RNG year round. London’s anaerobic digesters process up to 225,000 metric tonnes per year of organic waste, generating up to 832,000 GJ per year of RNG—all while diverting methane-producing food waste from landfills.

Impact
The London Digester and Biogas Plant has the capacity to recycle up to 225,000 metric tonnes of food waste diverted from landfills every year. In addition to diverting organic waste in some of Ontario’s largest municipalities, we process 90,000 tonnes of industrial, commercial, and institutional food and beverage waste from small distributors, food processors, and manufacturers.
