Niagara Anaerobic Digestion Facility
 Wheatfield, New York

Niagara Facility

Niagara Anaerobic Digester and Biogas Plant is a state-of-the-art food waste anaerobic digestion facility in Wheatfield, near Niagara Falls, New York. The anaerobic digester recycles up to 53,000 tons of organic waste every year from manufacturers, retailers, and municipalities. In converting waste into renewable energy, Niagara produces more than 81,000 GJs of renewable natural gas while diverting waste from landfills

Since acquiring the Niagara Digester in 2018, Generate Upcycle has developed the facility into a significant regional producer of renewable natural gas (RNG), sustainable energy source that replaces fossil fuel-produced natural gas. Recent infrastructure updates have enabled the production of up to 81,000 GJs per year of RNG at Niagara. This upgrade has improved the site’s environmental performance, enabling the facility’s primary product to tap into strong demand for RNG. The natural biological process of anaerobic digestion also produces fertilizer that is used as a soil amendment on local farms.

Working with our community partners to convert waste into valuable products, we’re creating a strong, sustainable circular economy in the Niagara Falls region.
